The historic Fish Fight debate held in the House of Commons has resulted with a motion being passed unanimously to ban fish discards by 2015!

The motion, which welcomed Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Fish Fight campaign, calls on Government to reject reforms unless they include an end to the scandal of fish discards, which sees half the fish caught in the North Sea unnecessarily thrown back into the ocean either dead or dying. Zac Goldsmith MP, who put forward the motion, said, “Government now has an extraordinary mandate from Parliament to take a tough line. This has been a good moment for Parliament”.

Congrats also to chef and campaigner Hugh, who has just picked up a for BAFTA Hugh’s Fish Fight.
